Kuniken Ltd. is pleased to announce that in November 2024, it received the SBT for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) certification, an international environmental initiative.

*Science Based Targets (SBTs) are greenhouse gas emission reduction targets set by companies in order to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Science Based Targets

What are Science Based Targets (SBTs)?

We've set a Science-based target

Science Based Targets (SBTs) are the framework for companies to set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. These targets are based on climate science and aim to limit global temperature rise to well below 1.5°C, the goal of the Paris Agreement. SBTs provide guidelines for companies to take concrete actions toward a sustainable future.

The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) evaluates and certifies whether the targets set by companies are scientifically valid. The SBTi is jointly managed by the World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), and others.

Adopting SBTs reinforces our commitment to climate change and enhances trust with clients and investors. SBTs are also an important tool for improving a company's competitiveness and ensuring its long-term sustainability. We also hope to see an increase in employee commitment to addressing global social issues.

In relation to the SDGs, SBTs directly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal 13 to "take urgent action to combat climate change." In addition, by improving energy efficiency and promoting the use of renewable energy, we will contribute to Goal 7 of "ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all." By adopting SBTs, we intend to chart a concrete path toward achieving the SDGs and strengthen our efforts toward a sustainable future.

The Kuniken Group positions "sustainable community development" as a strategic direction for its management.
We have established greenhouse gas reduction targets for the entire Kuniken Group and obtained SBT certification.

The Kuniken Group has set the following goals in order to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire value chain by fiscal year 2050.

Kuniken Group
Reduction Targets

Base year: FY 2021 Target year: FY 2030 Reduction
Scope1(direct emissions) 71.53 t-CO2 41.49 t-CO2 -30.04 t-CO2
Scope2(indirect emissions) 148.14 t-CO2 85.92 t-CO2 -62.22 t-CO2
*We will use fiscal year 2021 (SBTi mistakenly states this as fiscal year 2019) as the base year and reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 42% of the SBT 1.5°C level by the target year of fiscal year 2030 (SBTi mistakenly states this as fiscal year 2019) and will also work on measuring and reducing Scope 3 emissions.

Going forward, the Kuniken Group will continue to strengthen its efforts to further innovate its architecture and civil engineering technologies and to increase the commitment of each and every employee in order to ensure the achievement of its SBT-certified goals. In addition to working to measure and reduce Scope 3 emissions, we will work with local communities and partner companies to create environmentally friendly, sustainable values. We will continue to act responsibly with an eye to the future of our region and the planet and make steady progress toward achieving carbon neutrality by fiscal year 2050.
