General Rest Area (Churaumi Plaza)

The Churaumi Plaza General Rest Area serves as a transit point to the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and other facilities, promoting the overall use of the park. It is a facility where visitors can rest after touring the aquarium, as well as deepen their interest and knowledge in the sea of Okinawa.

Taking advantage of the land’s elevation difference, escalators and elevators are provided to access the facility, creating an underground-like experience while securing a view of the sea from the aquarium’s exit. The expansive rooftop garden and deck, offering a view of the sea, provide a relaxing space for visitors.

The first basement floor features a rest area and an exhibition corner linked to the theme of the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, “Encountering the Sea of Okinawa.” The colonnade space, which mitigates sunlight, extends from the front lawn to the sea.
