Hentona River Biodiversity Design Project
2016 Rivers & Coasts
The Hentona River Development Plan was derived from the contents of the Kunigami Village Center Development Basic Plan (road construction, river development, town planning). It reorganized the plans and projects to encompass the entire area, including the central area and surrounding districts. The plan included basic principles, policies, and development programs for community planning, promoting the project as a package with the Hentona Boulevard development and utilizing comprehensive grant funds for social infrastructure development.
Due to the insufficient cross-section of the Hentona River, the box culverts currently installed have caused river flooding, leading to road inundation and residential water damage. The improvement plan ensured the consistency of road and river plans.
Furthermore, for the river improvement, a biodiverse river development approach was adopted to create a water-friendly space that coexists with the natural environment of Yanbaru. The design aimed to make the Hentona River’s waterside an accessible and relaxing space for local residents.
