Miyako Airport Passenger Terminal Building

1997 Ports & Airports

Aiming to create a passenger terminal that befits Okinawa as a tourist destination, we designed the building with a strong local flavor not found in the existing terminal building. The roof features Okinawa’s distinctive red tiles, highlighting the local character unique to this airport. The design of the building was inspired by the image of the gray-faced buzzard spreading its wings as it descends onto Miyako Island every autumn from the north.
