Miyakojima City Funeral Hall
2011 Cultural & Educational Facilities
Under the concept of preserving the dignity of the deceased and harmonizing with the surrounding environment while valuing the original landscape of Miyakojima City, the existing trees along the access road from the main road to the crematorium are designated as the “Forest of Farewell” serving as a green buffer to comfort the hearts of the mourners heading to the funeral hall.
The exterior design of the building is segmented to create a varied and layered profile, ensuring that the tall roof of the crematorium does not protrude from the surrounding tree skyline, thereby avoiding any sense of oppression.
The internal layout clearly defines the circulation of mourners, creating a smooth and easy-to-navigate spatial configuration from the farewell and cremation hall, the bone collection room in the cremation department, to the waiting hall and waiting rooms in the waiting area.
