Nature Mirai

2008 Cultural & Educational Facilities

The Nature Mirai is part of the Hometown Development Project promoted by the town of Kin, providing a facility where visitors can experience the region’s bountiful natural and cultural heritage.

Surrounding the facility are the mangrove-covered Okukubi River and rice fields that attract various wild birds. The facility offers programs that include nature experiences such as canoeing and cultural experiences like playing the sanshin (Okinawan lute) and creating bingata (Okinawan dyeing).

The facility is designed to host these programs and facilitate interaction between visitors and local residents.

The buildings are single-story structures arranged around a central plaza, designed to blend into the natural environment by reducing their scale. They are arranged to create a cohesive connection among the different functional areas. Moreover, the buildings incorporate elements of traditional Okinawan architecture, such as red roof tiles and amahaji (rain shields), reflecting the island’s native landscape.
