Nishihara Sawafuji Market (Nishihara Distribution, Processing, and Tourism Hub Facility)

This facility was designed to be a place that can attractively promote agriculture and related activities.

The exterior features a large roof, symbolizing a place where agriculture, the local community, and tourism come together under one roof to showcase and create the charm of Nishihara Town and its agricultural heritage.

Inspired by the traditional local culture of rope-pulling, the design features a roof (rope) supported by columns (poles), expressing the community’s collective support.

The parking lot is located at the front of the site, ensuring accessibility from three sides, providing a safe and convenient layout.

To ensure the building blends seamlessly with the ridgeline and surrounding environment, careful consideration was given to maintaining continuity with the landscape, creating an open and welcoming space.

The design features a straightforward circulation for first-time visitors, with a piloti (open space under the building) in the center, flanked by a direct-to-consumer shops and restaurants on either side, as well as a rental kitchen and the Nishihara Theater (tourism functionality).

Eaves and benches around the perimeter create a veranda-like space, providing resting areas for the elderly and children.
