Northern Regional Integration Logistics Survey Project

2021 Ports & Airports

The northern region of Okinawa Island is a thriving area for producing agricultural and marine products. However, due to the necessity of transporting these products by land to Naha and then shipping them to destinations outside the prefecture via Naha Port or Naha Airport, the transport cost to Naha poses a significant barrier to regional industrial promotion. To address this, it is essential to streamline logistics in the northern region and reorganize the logistics system to reduce transportation costs. This will enhance the income of agricultural producers and manufacturers, increase production through higher labor motivation, and stimulate industrial growth in the entire northern region through equipment investment resulting from increased profits.

To achieve this, we proposed leveraging Motobu Port’s geographical advantages, a designated important port for regional promotion (within an hour’s access to northern municipalities), and its port functions (large refrigerated and frozen warehouses, seismic berths, etc.) to provide the necessary support for establishing Tokyo and Osaka shipping routes, address various issues, and stabilize these routes.

Our company has managed and operated this social experiment, from formulating the initiative plan and surveying transportation needs to achieving independent operation. After six years of efforts, in the fiscal year 2020, we succeeded in establishing regular shipping routes.
