Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University Conference Center

2015 Cultural & Educational Facilities

The Conference Center at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, which was established to become a world-class research and educational facility, is strategically located at the entrance of the campus area to facilitate access for local residents and various visitors. This positioning aimed to create a community facility that connects the university with the local community.

The center is designed in a gentle elliptical shape and partially submerged underground to reduce its volume. The use of limestone masonry in conjunction with the research buildings and ceramic shingle exterior walls created a cohesive campus aesthetic that blends seamlessly with the green landscape. The hall’s interior walls feature a design inspired by DNA barcodes, reflecting the university’s scientific focus.

Functionally, the center accommodates various presentation styles, multinational users, and extended lectures and presentations. It features spacious fixed seating with excellent ventilation and flexible bench seating. The design was given thoughtful consideration for desk sizes, armrest shapes, lighting levels, and easy access during lectures. The screen is movable, allowing natural surroundings to be incorporated into the view, providing a refreshing atmosphere for lecture participants, and enhancing the sense of unity with the research buildings.
