Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University Lab 1 Building and Administration Building

2010 Cultural & Educational Facilities

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University is an institution established to provide world-class research and educational facilities. To prioritize the preservation of untouched nature, the campus buildings are positioned along the ridges to protect the valleys and arranged with tunnels and elevators to reduce the area needed for roads and parking.

The stone walls made of Motobu limestone, also used in the World Heritage Nakijin Castle, and the ceramic shingle-clad exterior walls blend seamlessly into the green landscape.

The research facility is significantly different from those at traditional Japanese universities, featuring an open lab concept and equipped with state-of-the-art imaging facilities, RI facilities, animal facilities, as well as other central lab support amenities.
