Okinawa Kaiho Bank Headquarters

2015 Government Buildings & Offices

The Okinawa Kaiho Bank Headquarters is a reconstruction project for a historic regional bank founded in 1949. While inheriting the familiar appearance of the old headquarters building, known for its solid stone exterior, the new building aimed to embody “safety and security,” as well as “environmental banking,” fitting for a new era as the bank approaches its 100th anniversary. As part of its business continuity plan (BCP), the building features seismic isolation, dual power supply lines, a rooftop electrical room, emergency power generation equipment, and disaster preparedness restrooms. It also ensures that it serves as a disaster response hub for the community. In terms of environmental considerations, the design incorporates the latest high-efficiency and energy-saving technologies without over-reliance, focusing on blending these with eco-friendly design methods suited to Okinawa’s climate. The facade, which combines transparency with deep shadows, aims to realize an environmentally conscious architecture that reflects the essence of Okinawa.
