Okinawa Prefectural Wakanatsu Institution

2009 Cultural & Educational Facilities

The Wakanatsu Institution, a prefectural child independence support facility built in 1974, faced challenges due to the deterioration of its buildings (dormitory, administration building, and cafeteria). The facility underwent a comprehensive renovation to provide a more suitable environment for the children’s growth and improve the support environment for the staff.

The plans were given the following considerations:

  • Ensuring a living and support environment conducive to the needs of the children and staff.
  • Planning a user-friendly facility that respects the opinions of the institution (on-site) staff.
  • Designing with consideration for the surrounding residential environment.
  • Considering the cost, construction, timeline, safety, and security aspects.
