Okinawa Rehabilitation and Care Center
2013 Sports & Health
This project involved demolishing and expanding a welfare facility for children (and adults) with disabilities, located in the residential area of Yorimiya, Naha City.
To accommodate the time-consuming drop-off and pick-up functions, the entrance drop-off features a deep eave to shield parents from the rain, and a glass block skylight at its center channels natural light, creating a bright entrance space.
Each floor is connected to the existing facility, ensuring highly convenient pathways and a rest terrace offering scenic views from the wards.
The boundary fence allows light and wind to pass through, and the environment within the premises is enhanced by planting cherry trees and flowers to match the nearby park’s trees, achieving a facility open to the community and rich in greenery.
*Renamed the Okinawa Southern Medical and Rehabilitation Center in April 2014.
