Okinawa Times Building

2012 Government Buildings & Offices

Forest of Waves (Information) and Wind (Culture)

The Okinawa Times Building, designed with the concept of “Forest of Waves (Information) and Wind (Culture),” serves as the main gateway to the Naha Symbol Road Urban Zone, creating vibrancy and activity. The first floor features a bright and open space with public open areas, cafes, shops, and a lobby that is welcoming to all. The second-floor gallery and third-floor Times Hall are cultural facilities that can be used for various purposes. Floors five to nine are tenant office spaces, and floors ten to twelve house Okinawa Times’ offices, making it a multipurpose building. The exterior of the building is primarily white, harmonizing with the surrounding office buildings. Using horizontal and vertical louvers and functional glass that block sunlight creates a design full of expression and maintains a human scale without appearing bulky. Additionally, the greenery in the public open spaces, balconies, and nighttime lighting add a refreshing touch to the urban environment.
