Ryukyu Awamori Kusu no Sato

2012 Government Buildings & Offices

With the catchphrase, “Marking the passage of time and promoting the Awamori culture of Okinawa,” this facility serves as the central hub for introducing aged Awamori to the world.

The facility’s design evokes the nostalgic atmosphere of pre-war sake shops in Shuri, as depicted in old photographs. The exterior features a wood-like (brown) finish, Ryukyu limestone for the lower walls, and traditional red roof tiles.

In the first phase of construction, a storage building and a management building were completed. Future development plans include the phased construction of four additional storage buildings and a museum.

The initial storage building can house ten stainless steel tanks, each capable of storing 50 kL of Awamori, allowing for a total storage capacity of 2,500 kL across the five buildings.
