Shuri Castle Seiden (Main Hall)
1992 Cultural Properties
1. Fundamental Philosophy
In the development of Shurijo Castle Park, the restoration of the Seiden (main hall) is positioned as the most symbolic building for the following reasons:
(1) To inherit cultural heritage and traditional techniques
(2) As a source of spiritual support for the people of Okinawa
(3) For the understanding and learning of local history
(4) For the enjoyment and tourism of the citizens
2. Basic Policy
The Seiden underwent various historical changes and existed as a representative wooden structure of Ryukyu architecture. The current restoration efforts are focused on restoring the Seiden that was rebuilt around 1712 and designated as a National Treasure in 1925, because the Seiden rebuilt around 1712 remained until the pre-war period, and the historical documentation from that period is relatively clear.
