Tenbusu Naha
2004 Cultural & Educational Facilities
Tenbusu Naha is a facility developed with the cooperation of the public and private sectors on the site of the former International Shopping Center (Ernie Pyle Theater, the post-war symbol of Naha City’s revival). The project focused on revitalizing the city center.
This facility is located on a site sandwiched between a pocket park facing Kokusai Street and Kibogaoka Park. The primary concept was to promote the integrated use of these parks to stimulate the central city area. As such, a semi-outdoor corridor was established within the facility. This connects the second-floor Traditional Crafts Museum (sales area, exhibition room, bingata, Shuri-ori, and lacquerware workshops) with the glass and pottery workshops in the park, ensuring the integrated use of the facility, park, and pocket park.
