Tomigusuku Network Center
2016 Government Buildings & Offices
This is a telecommunications exchange facility located in a quiet residential area on the Kakazu Ridge in Tomigusuku City. It was constructed to establish a mutual backup system with the Nanjo Network Center (NC), which was completed in 2008 in Nanjo City.
The exterior design takes into account the surrounding residential environment, featuring recessed walls and segmented volumes to create a human-scale design that does not impose on its surroundings. The entrance’s exterior walls are cladded with Ryukyu limestone, presenting a soft beige color scheme. Moreover, using aluminum spandrels introduces variation to the building’s appearance.
To ensure the facility’s safety and reliability, the structure is high-strength seismic-resistant. The facility is also equipped with dual power and communication lines, emergency generators, batteries, and uninterruptible power supply systems for power backup. The monitoring and control systems are designed for remote surveillance synced with the headquarters and Nanjo Network Center.
Furthermore, the facility incorporates energy-saving measures such as LED lighting, a rainwater utilization system, and non-air-conditioned maintenance spaces around the communication machine rooms to mitigate external heat loads.
