Video Hall
2011 Cultural & Educational Facilities
The Video Hall is considered an extension of the existing exhibition room of the adjacent Marine Culture Museum. It features an exterior design where a cuboid finished with the same exterior materials as the Marine Culture Museum is intersected by a frustum finished with manufactured Ryukyu limestone. This frustum shape hints at the inclusion of a planetarium within and enhances visibility through its distinctive form. Inside the frustum is a planetarium room with an 18-meter diameter dome screen and 190 seats. The interior walls of the anteroom are also frustum-shaped and lined with manufactured Ryukyu limestone to create continuity with the exterior walls.
Moreover, the elevator tower adjacent to the pedestrian deck provides barrier-free access to both the Video Hall and the Marine Culture Museum. The corner of the elevator tower is designed with glass to reduce its bulkiness.
