Yomitan Cultural Center
1999 Cultural & Educational Facilities
The Cultural Center’s architectural profile features the same red roof tiles as the adjoining village office, enhancing the local landscape and creating a contrast of light and shade on the roof and eaves under the strong sunlight of subtropical Okinawa.
The community plaza creates a semi-outdoor space of a human scale surrounded by a piloti, deck terrace, and grass stands. The piloti and deck encircle the plaza as a means to control light, shade, and wind to protect against Okinawa’s climate and become vibrant seating areas during events.
